Our goal is to provide all customers with an excellent moving experience. Even if we do not have the privilege of servicing your move, we still want to provide you with tools and information to make an informed decision.
1. Three in-home estimates
We stress getting three in-home estimates because the on-site estimators will be better suited to give a more accurate estimate and prepare their operations team. An on-site estimator is able to better understand how much you will be moving. On-site estimators will review the logistics of your home, like stairways and the length of your driveway, and relay that information to the operations team so the crew is prepared on move day.
2. Deciding on an estimate
After you have received, at minimum, three in-home estimates, you will have to pick one. This can be a daunting task because you might receive three different types of estimates or the estimates are laid out differently. If you have any questions regarding your estimate, call the estimator and ask them to explain.
When you are comparing estimates, note the estimated weight and the number of hours to complete the move. This will give you a better sense of how companies are pricing the move. If one estimate is much lower in price or weight, ask yourself, “What did the estimator miss? Will there be any surprises on move day?”
3. Training and Safety
Ask your estimator about the company’s training procedures. You will want to know how the crews are trained and what you can expect for your move. How will everything be protected? How much training has each crew member received?
4. Your point of contact
Logistics of your move can change. Who are you supposed to call if you are going to move the piano? Or if you won’t be moving the items in the shed? Knowing the best point of contact, their direct number, and their email address is helpful when questions arise.
5. Items that won’t be moving
For your belongings that are not being transported, it’s best to put them in a separate room or closet and shut the door for the entirety of the move. This will help minimize the risk of something being packed that was not supposed to be loaded onto the truck. This is also a good idea if some of your belongings are going to Wyoming when the rest are going to Florida.
6. Be available
When the crews arrive, they should introduce themselves to everybody in the house. And then they will go to work. They will have questions and will need you available to answer them. It will slow down the entire process if you are not available.
7. Moving should be the only activity on move day
There will be tremendous activity during move day, with the crews moving your belongings into the truck. To create a more efficient move, it’s better to schedule third party services (heating and air conditioning, washer and dryer installation) after your move is complete. This way, you won’t have to direct multiple contractors at the same time.
