The weather is getting warm and that can only mean one thing – it’s moving time! As the weather gets warmer and summer draws nearer, more moves are conducted. To signal the beginning of moving season, the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) marks May as National Moving Month. If you are planning to move this summer, start planning ahead. To help you, we have gathered some useful tips to get you started.
1. Book your move with as much notice as possible.
We typically recommend booking your move 2-3 weeks before your move day, but with the busy-ness that comes with the warm weather, you really should book your move at least one month ahead of time. This will ensure your selected moving company is available for your move day.
2. Avoid the end of the month.
The ends of months are the most hectic times for moving companies. Try to schedule your move for the middle of the month.
3. Keep your delivery day clear of non-moving services.
This means you should not schedule house cleaners, appliance installations, etc., on the day of your delivery. Let this day be for getting all your items delivered and properly set up. Your movers will be going in and out of the house and it is best to give them a clear path to operate so they can be as safe, quick, and efficient as possible.
4. Stay cool and refreshed.
Moving is exhausting; more so when it is hot out. When you see the temperature rising, crank up the A/C, put on some lightweight clothing, and make sure you have plenty of refreshments and ice to keep them cold.
5. Be wary of heat-sensitive items.
When packed into a full moving van on a hot day, candles can melt just like chocolates left in your pocket or purse. When packing, always ask yourself if the items can be damaged by heat. This includes aerosols and electronics. Ask your moving company about items you should not pack.
