At JK Moving Services, we appreciate our drivers for their dedication and quality work. They are a vital part of the company and we always want them to understand how much they are valued. For National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, we sat down with some of our drivers at an employee appreciation barbecue and discussed their time driving with JK.
Kurt Schaffstall—Project Manager/Driver; Chris Alston—Driver
How long have you been a professional driver?
Kurt: I have been with JK for eight years, serving first as a driver then a project manager for our Commercial customers.
Chris: I have been a long-distance driver for JK for about five years, though I have been driving professionally for 35 years.
What attracted you to the industry?
Kurt: My friend’s wife worked at a temp agency and told me about an opportunity at JK, and that led to what is now eight years with the company. I really enjoy the hours, meeting new people, and going to new places—the job is never monotonous. I just love driving trucks in the Washington, D.C. area.
Chris: I came from a family of drivers. Watching my dad drive trucks for a living, I took an interest in the trucks and driving at a young age.
What do you like about working at JK?
Kurt: Every day is different, and JK goes out of its way to show its appreciation for its employees. It’s a very nice culture to be a part of. With JK, you get to be involved with various customers and things are always fresh and exciting. With commercial moves, you are really getting a unique experience every day because you operate with warehouses and offices, compared to residential moves.
Chris: JK makes sure to treat you well. They make sure drivers are consistently occupied and they minimize down-time, so you are not just sitting still. JK also makes sure to have the best equipment—the trucks are always getting improved and that really makes a difference to drivers. JK recognizes our effort and takes good care of us.
At JK Moving Services, we truly care about our truck drivers – it is safe to say that we could not exist without them! We always want them to feel comfortable in their jobs and able to succeed, which is why we go the extra mile in our commitment to strong training and safety. Chris and Kurt’s comments make us proud of how we are accomplishing that goal.
