Yesterday morning, while one of our employees, Connie Owens, was getting ready for work, NBC4 was running a report on a local DC woman, Eloisa Diaz, who was being evicted from her home in Columbia Heights. Recognizing a person in need and a situation where JK Moving Services could step in and help, she immediately called her manager, Mike Petersen, who agreed and put together a moving crew to help. Within minutes, JK was on the phone with six men and three moving trucks gassed up and ready to help.
We are happy to report that yesterday afternoon, we successfully moved Ms. Diaz’s belongings to our moving storage facilities here in Sterling where we will store her belongings free of charge for one month while she makes her living arrangements. We know it is not realistic to believe that we can solve most of the issues of those facing evictions, it nevertheless is important to help where we can. After all, often huge problems are sometimes solved one person at a time.
We wish Ms. Diaz the best of luck and hope that acts like these will motivate the broader community to help where there is need.
