I normally do not like to crow about the pro bono work that I do, but in this case I am especially proud to have been asked to join the Board of Directors of Fight for Children. Fight for Children is an organization that works “to ensure low-income children in Washington, DC receive a great education and stay healthy so they can learn.” Founded in 1990 by Joseph E. Robert Jr., this non-profit has raised over $450 million for education and healthcare initiatives serving the District’s low-income children. While the group is well-known for running one of Washington, DC’s premier fundraisers, Fight Night, they also administer the Quality Schools Initiative, and give grants to over 150 local organizations.
This board includes many renowned leaders in the fields of education, health care and business, and I am honored to be asked to join their ranks. I have long believed that every child deserves a quality education, and I think it is important to support organizations that are operating in one’s own backyard. While I have always donated to Fight Night, I am pleased that I will be able to support Fight for Children through additional efforts. They are doing good work and I am happy to be a part of it.
I encourage everyone to support this worthwhile cause and to contribute. I will be sure to tell you the next time that tickets go on sale for Fight Night.
